Alternative EarthCare discusses organic tick spraying for the American dog tick in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
The American dog tick, also known as the wood tick, is not just a problem for our furry friends. This tick poses a threat to humans as well, transmitting diseases such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularemia. The American dog tick most commonly uses domestic dogs as hosts, but often those ticks fall off of dogs as they prepare to lay eggs and start on their next life cycle. This could mean the transferring of ticks to human hosts afterward, especially if the dog has brought the tick or ticks into the home where they can lay up to 5,000 eggs and cause an infestation. American dog ticks are found throughout North America but ironically are not present in the Rocky Mountain area though they transmit the disease that carries the area’s name.
